Pssst! Would you like to know a secret? Angels walk
among us!
Some people say we are simply an assembly of flesh,
bone and blood. While this may be true in the physical
sense, take a closer look. We are much, much more.
When we look at our world each day it is difficult
sometimes to see beyond the reports of blood shed,
terror, hunger and grief. One often becomes
overwhelmed and begins to give up thinking that there
is any `good news'. However, for every report of `bad'
news there is a flipside to it too.
Where have all the heroes gone? They are the ones
behind the scenes, working quietly and steadily. They
do what they do not `because' some thing is happening
in front of them. They do what they do `regardless' of
what is happening in front of them.
Each one of us is an angel to someone. Take a look
around you.
Do you see the nurse and doctor in the hospital
emergency room doing his/her job with focused
concentration and economy of motion while at the same
time conveying to the patient a sense of calm and
reassurance? Perhaps that nurse or doctor is going
through a personal crisis yet they rise above that to
assist another.
Do you see the grocery store clerk that sees a family
come through the check out stand that is a few dollars
short of the total bill, quietly slip the difference into the
cash register and say, "Oh, I read that total
incorrectlyàit is exactly this amount. Thank you. Have
a great day! " Why did they do that and then thank
them? They saw an opportunity to make a difference.
They honored that family for coming in and doing their
shopping in that grocery store. The clerk recognized the
greatness of spirit of the humans standing before them.
By freely giving the gift of a few dollars the clerk received
the gift of compassion.
It seems we are so bombarded by the "me-me-me" way
of thinking that we become calloused or simply forget
that it doesn't have to be that way. We have all at one
time or another fallen into the trap of thinking that we
must harden our hearts and close our eyes to our fellow
humans just to survive. I ask you to look deep within
your heart for the answer to this question: Is this living
or surviving? And why is it important to remember the
difference? Your soul knows the answer.
Each time we look in to the eyes of someone that is
fearful and feel the pull of our heart to ease that
pain that is compassion and that is easy.
Easy? Compared to what?
At some time we have all had the opportunity
to come into contact with someone that pushes all our
buttons at the same time. It is most difficult to find a
common ground to connect with them and to
understand their point of view. This is when we dig
down deep within ourselves to find a point of reference
to understand what they are feeling. Perhaps we
personally have never had the same experience or
reaction to that experience so it is difficult to relate to it.
Reach down inside yourself. Ascertain what that person
is feelingàis it fear, anger, guilt, etc? Each of us has a
wealth of experience to draw upon and extract from
your own experience and modify it with the intent to
connect with and assist a difficult person.
We are, each one, blessed with a gift of healing and we
are angels walking the earth. Huh?! Yes, you read that
correctly. We are all healers and angels. Right here,
right now.
A few questions to ask your soul:
Do you:
À Recognize the magnificence of another persons'
spirit?
À Share your experiences and insights from
walking through a personal challenge, either
physically, spiritually or emotionally?
À Realize that no matter our differences we all
face basically the same challenges?
The Six Saddest Words
There are six words that I believe are some of
the saddest words ever uttered. Care to take a guess at what
they might be?
Could have
Should have
Would have
There are two questions to ask yourself when you catch
yourself using these words. Amazingly enough, these
questions are the same to each of those phrases. The
answers to the questions may vary but very
little.
À Why didn't you?
À What prevented you?
Unfortunately, hindsight is always 20/20. We look at a
situation and these are the things we often tell ourselves
to make ourselves feel better. Sometimes we do not do
something because social protocol tells us that we are
sparing another persons' feelings. However, I think
that ultimately, what really prevents us from doing
something comes down to a basic emotion. Fear. What
is the reason for that fear?
We often think that by not doing something we are
letting the situation ease past us with no ill effects. But
are we really? When we see a situation that full of
anger (another face of fear) or a situation that is
dangerous and do or say nothing in essence we are
saying that it is okay, and that we can condone such
behavior.
It is when we reach out to another human being with
the intent to uplift or assist from our own experiences
and sharing our insights that we fulfill our potential and
become an angel that walks the earth. Perhaps we can
think of these experiences as training.
Who better to assist another than one that has walked in
similar shoes? If not youàthen who?
