Make Your Own Perfume

If you love perfume and are a creative person, you could very well make your own perfume. Making perfume is not only enjoyable, but it can become a fantastic handmade and personalized gift for loved ones, friends or family. Making perfume doesn't require much work and is a fairly simple task that many people can do.

Instructions and advice on making perfume will vary depending on where you receive your directions and what your perfume preference will be. Some people are unable to handle a strong smell; therefore, a lightly scented perfume may be preferred. Feel free to see examples of perfume gifts here.

The most important material in making your own perfume is the scented oils. These oils can be purchased from most craft stores and shoplets. The oils that will be used often come in three different categories. The categories are classified based on the strength of the scent. A top note will generally include lime, lavender, orange, spearmint, or peppermint. The middle note oils include geranium, coriander, and basil. The bottom note, also commonly referred to as the base note, includes sandalwood, cinnamon, cedar wood, and vanilla. Each oil selection may vary. In addition to the mentioned examples, other classified oils can easily be obtained for making perfume.

When mixing the oils, it is important to follow directions. The correct combinations should be mixed in the correct order and proportion; otherwise the perfume will not come out smelling as it should. The bottom note, or base note, oils should be added first. After adding the bottom note oils, next will come the middle note oils. And finally the top note oils will be added. An easy may to remember the order is bottom, middle, top, just as the names say. It is usually best to mix the oils in a clear glass so you can see what you are doing.

After your mix is completed, you will need to move your work. If you have a specific perfume bottle or a container that can be closed, move your mixture into it. You should give your perfume solution about four or five days to settle and completely mix together. After the time has elapsed you can check your perfume to determine if it is what you want. It is possible to add additional oils after the four or five days.

So go ahead and make your own perfume. It is a fun and relaxing way to create your own unique and personal scents. Making your own perfume allows you to be able to express your creative and save money all at the same time.
