Is it a Love Connection or a Convenient Love?

When I asked my friends with life partners how they knew they had found the person they would be with for the rest of their lives, I got responses like "It was love at first sight" or "I saw fireworks" or my favorite "Just one look and I knew she/he was the one for me". Those responses got me thinking, how could they know? How does one look, one kiss, give anyone enough information to know that you are going to still want to look at them 10 years down the road?

Now, I am no expert but, I my best guess is that the answer is just one word "connection". Having said that let me explain. Connection is in my opinion, the immediate response the body recognizes, whether consciously or sub-consciously that allows your mind to open up to the possibility of total happiness. For some, it can truly happen as fast as lightening, for others it is the gradual opening of a door that was or appeared to be closed.

For those fortunate enough to recognize the connection immediately, the emotional rush is very strong. The feeling of rightness is so powerful that it is as if the spirits of two souls separated by time have been reunited. The sense of togetherness is both new and yet feels like it has been there always. This type of connection makes me think there is something to the stories of souls passing from one lifetime to another. It makes this explanation very simple and logical in a very illogical way. It also lets me believe that the romance of a relationship will last beyond the initial meeting and getting to know you time of a relationship, but that is a subject for another day.

For those that experience the gradual opening to a mutual connection, it is my belief that they first experienced that "instant spark" but there's some type of need for personal growth first. Being ready to walk through the door is as important as finding the right door to walk through. Whether it is an emotional hold, life "baggage", or maybe it is just the inexperience of recognizing what the true feelings rolling around inside are, it is enough to hold you back. In order for the door of happiness to completely open for you, it is important to first understand what you feel, what you need and what makes you happy. Once you understand those personal needs, and recognize that there is someone special to share them with, the connection begins to grow. This type of connection is one that I would consider almost magical. It begins slowly, grows steadily and maintains itself even when change is happening, because the changes that occur are clearing the path to the togetherness you seek.

I wish there was a tangible test we could all take to know if there is a connection or if we are just fooling ourselves. How simple love and happiness could be. Just imagine a thermometer that registers connection. One side held in his hand, the other held in hers and if the mercury heats up to reach the middle well then you are connected. On the other hand, if there is no meeting in the middle, does it mean you have no connection? No, I don't think so, on the first try. Not even on the second try, but on the third or fourth or even fifth. Ok, now it is time to start thinking, convenience instead of connection.

Because there is no physical test, we all have to rely on the things we were born with. So, first listen to your heart, it speaks clearly. Second, listen to your head, it is smart enough to know what is truly right for you and third be strong enough to open the door to the path that will lead you to a lifetime of magical love.
