Bestower
This week let's practise being a bestower. In every act and in every thought let us consciously make a point of giving back to our world (the self & family) and the wider universe. Be it a smile, positive energy, good wishes or a kind word.
The consciousness of a bestower is so over-full, that a Hindi proverb beautifully describes it thus: there is nothing lacking in the treasure of the bestower. Royalty is also very much a characteristic of a bestower – their vision need not bow to any form of desire, for their soul is completely full.
When an international organisation like the Brahma Kumaris offers its services free of charge, it is exemplifying the quality of a bestower; selfless humanitarian service; an act of spiritual love. The founder, an old man in India, endeavoured to cultivate his vision of pure, selfless, service to humanity. He believed spiritual knowledge to be the right of every individual and so should be shared freely. He nurtured that vision through thick and thin and those who felt akin to such a vision began to assist. Today there are over 6,000 centres in more than 84 countries because others believe, share and live by that vision of generosity.
A bestower does not count what they give. Hence when a bestower gives and the recipient receives there is no feeling of obligation or keeping count. Both the giver and the receiver are lost in a captivating experience. In all faiths there is an understanding that the left hand should not know what the right hand is giving. This requires humility, altruism and a clean heart. As soon as I calculate what I have given or begin to expect a return, that donation loses value, for it did not come from my heart.
Most of us have heard of the old adage: 'Give and Ye Shall Receive', emphasising that first we must give. This giving with a clean heart sets in motion the karmic law that re-bounds energy bountifully. So, if you lack love then give love and if you lack respect from others, then give respect. This applies to every other form of physical and spiritual energy.
As you reflect on and practise being a bestower this week, you will feel the positive energy surge within you. Soon being a bestower won't have a beginning or an end as you become a conduit for this flow of power. The paradox here is, as we begin to give with a clean heart, our royal traits emerge; we do not become empty, but even fuller than before, as our giving goes beyond the physical and touches the spirit!
Om Shanti
