Food for Thought

We truly are what we eat. Every morsel of food not only goes to creating each cell that our body is made up of, but it also influences our consciousness. Eat heavy toxic food such as meat dishes or fried foods late at night, and then notice your mood the next morning. Try fruit or a salad instead and you will experience the difference.

It is not simply a question of the type of food, but our thoughts as we eat and prepare food are of equal, if not higher, importance. It is said that we should be "drinking our food and eating our water", meaning, we should savour each moment and actually 'taste' and chew what it is we are putting as fuel into our body.

Our thoughts are extremely significant, not just while eating but during the cooking process as well, as they determine the quality of vibration "entering" the food. Those of love and devotion will nourish the spirit and those of anger, self-pity or any other negative emotion will not only deplete the food value but add little of the right kind of energy for the body.

Just as it is important to eat lightly to maintain good health, so too, it is imperative that we create simple and uncomplicated thoughts for our spiritual health. Positive and empowering thoughts give strength firstly to the mind which then in turn helps to heal the body. Worrying thoughts add insult to injury, for the body is already weak and doubts and fears weaken it further.

Perhaps now we can better understand the phrase "you are what you eat". You are encouraged to experiment with your eating, ensuring you maintain a balanced diet, of course. Observe your self and see if you truly feel the difference physically and, more importantly, in your mind, that is, your thoughts and interactions. Being in the moment as you eat can open you to experience eating as an act of nurturing both your body and soul. This, in deed, is some food for thought!
