A neonate can develop various abnormal symptoms immediately after its birth. Some of them may be because of infection or any virus working in its body. Others may be caused by the elements of the body of the mother still working in the body of the child. One such symptom is cradle cap. It is a skin condition generally found among the babies of two to three months of age.
Far from being a harmful disease, it is simply a skin condition that does not require any serious treatment to be cured. The actual reason behind cradle cap is not defined clearly by dermatologists. Some of them opine that it is caused by the glands that produce sweat and oil in a highly reactive state. There is strong possibility that it is caused by the build-up of sweat and oil produced by these overactive glands.
It is also opined that
cradle cap occurs due to the overgrowth of the skin yeast called Pityrosporum ovale. The possibility that the skin condition is caused by some other serious problem is also not be ignored fully. It is very easy to recognise this disease. The affected area becomes thick, oily yellowish or brownish and patchy. Cradle cap is not caused by any kind of infection and there is no chance that it will become infectious and pass on to others.
However, it cannot be denied that the disease can spread to the other parts of the body. If it takes a severe turn, it can affect the other parts of the body of the baby. Another bad turn this disease can take is getting hard and ugly. The affected area may become crusty and unattractive to look at. Apart from these two things, there is nothing to be worried about cradle cap. It gets cured automatically. Yet, it is better to use some medicines to keep it under control.
