Updating Your Desktop Security Software

With the new year rapidly approaching I have begun to take a hard look at the security software I’ve been making use of on my home computer. I ran a Vulnerability Assessment about a week ago and I was surprised to find that my computer and even my home network where vulnerable to many of the threats I had believed I was safe from.

So as I stated I have begun to seriously consider some type of new Desktop Security software. Though my primary computer is used primarily as a for recreation and casual internet browsing I also use two my three computers for a small home business I have been running for about two years. That said with both my kids safety as well as my customers personal contact information at stake and vulnerable I want to be certain that I have the best in Network Security.

I have been performing quite a bit of Security Research over the past six days or so however the results I’m finding don’t look to promising. From what I’ve seen most PC Security applications come packed only with part of the solution I’m looking for and will often require a second or third purchase made up of add-ons that complete the software. This has been most frustrating as I’ve been running numerous antivirus applications for several years now and even with all of those running I typically see plenty of infections on my machines and more often than not the same ones repeatedly too.

What I’ve also noticed is that whether or not the programs I’m interested in really deliver solid security they all seem to be over priced. For what they actually offer I’ve been taken aback by some of the price tags and have a hard time understanding how or why anyone buys these things. I’m beginning to think most people stick with what they know or where originally given and so buy from the same vendor multiple times. I also think that with some many different vendors and products to choose from the general population has no idea as to what’s good and what’s not further adding to this problem.

I have found one company that seems to be on top of things and it looks as though their Computer Security do pack that “all in one punch” I’ve been looking for. This company eEye, even offers a Free Antivirus Software program through their website, http://www.eeye.com, call Blink Personal Edition. I’ve since downloaded the program but only had a few minutes to toy with it before head to the office. From what I’ve see though thus far Blink actually does what it claims, which is more than I can say for some of the other programs I’ve sampled or looked over.

Intrusion prevention is a big deal for me and from what I can tell Blink has it in spades. I configured the intrusion options and gave it a quick test run, going to websites that well lets just say aren’t the type of sites anyone should visit as they are packed with viruses, and spyware just waiting to overthrow your operating system and destroy what’s left of your resources. The PC Protection Blink delivered during this test run where fantastic. Only a minuscule amount of infections had made it past the program and to be honest I don’t know that they were actually threats and may have been normal functions that Blink detected and flagged.

If after I conclude my research Blink is the best out there I will likely upgrade it to the Professional edition for the fair price of $59.00 per asset. This is by far much more affordable than some of the programs I’d been forced to buy without ever being offered a free version, trial or otherwise. There are three other vendors remaining on my list of possible purchase candidates and once I test their wares out I will make my decision but I have a feeling Blink is going to be tough to beat.

Anyone looking at getting into some new PC Security Software should at least consider Blink as an alternative to what’s out there as it is the best bang for you buck. Of course do your research and find out based on budget and needs which Internet Security tools are going to work best for you.
