Togo over a long period of time was the French colony and that is why the official and the most widespread language in Togo is French. It started in the year 1922, when the control of the Togo was divided between Britain and France. The France gave the Togo a lot of help, especially connected with medicines. As for politic system of Togo, it is a parliamentary republic. Togo`s president is elected by the National Assembly to a seven years without limit of terms. Togo has only one political party and all the officials have to be the members of this party. The spokesman of the party controls all directions of national politics. Togo has a good political relationships with majority of African countries, especially with Nigeria, Senegal, Liberia and Ghana. The president of Togo today is Gnassingbe Eyadema.
