The Economical Position and Political System of Togo Republic

Togo over a long period of time was the French colony and that is why the official and the most widespread language in Togo is French. It started in the year 1922, when the control of the Togo was divided between Britain and France. The France gave the Togo a lot of help, especially connected with medicines. That improved the health and the quality of life in Togo. Togo was under the French control during almost forty years. In 1960 the French colony Togo became independent and was named the republic of Togo.

Nowadays Togo has a powerful and strong economy, based on the agriculture. The most important export product of Togo are coffee, cocoa, peanuts, cotton and palm oil. As the international trade is the most important part of the Togo`s economy, the country exports also mineral products and manufactures good and souvenirs. Although the Togo is an independent country, it still has a strong connection with France. Togo trades with a big amount of African and European countries, but France is still the main economy partner. When Togo has problems with incomes or debts, France always lends money to help the partner. Besides the agricultural products, Togo get a huge income from export of phosphate minerals. Togo takes the third place among the world`s producers of phosphate.

As for politic system of Togo, it is a parliamentary republic. Togo`s president is elected by the National Assembly to a seven years without limit of terms. Togo has only one political party and all the officials have to be the members of this party. The spokesman of the party controls all directions of national politics. Togo has a good political relationships with majority of African countries, especially with Nigeria, Senegal, Liberia and Ghana. The president of Togo today is Gnassingbe Eyadema.
