The Discovery of Hispaniola

The famous Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci was born in the year 1454 in Florence. The was a huge interest in exploration in that period of time in Florence, so it was the best city for Amerigo to grow up in. Like the majority of boys in Florence, Amerigo was charmed with stories about miracles and riches of the Indies.
Amerigo lived in a big family in the Ognissanti district of Florence. The Vespucci family was quite wealthy, so Amerigo hoped to come into a good fortune after his father`s passing, but his brother Antonio had a privilege over the rest children. Almost all members of Vespuci`s family were merchants dealing in wine, wool and olive oil. But not all in his family were traders, some of them were bankers.
In his youth years Amerigo was sent by his father to the Monestary of San Marco to study the humanities and the exact sciences, such as Latin, math, geography, astronomy, Greek and Italian Literature, grammar and history. Amerigo`s favourite subject was astronomy because of the fascinating shapes the stars made. All the time he was dreaming of the traveling about the earth, but he was sure that it is just a dream, because he was taught earlier that the equator is a burning hoop that made the water boiled there.
After several years Amerigo`s dream of travelling became more realizable. The first thing that advanced the realization of Amerigo`s hopes was the invention of the caravel, a narrow lightweight boot. The Portugese, that started production of caravels had learned to equip them in such way, that they could sail against counterblast and currents of the oceans. Another reality appeared several years later, when Amerigo was 19 years old. This reality was connected with the first Portugese sailing to the equator, which disproved the Roman theory about boiling see and fiery equator ring. But in spite of portuguese discovery, Amerigo thought that he would never see the world. In contrast to Portuguese with huge ships, Florence had just small trade boats.
But later began more interesting times in Amerigo`s life, when Christoper Columbus left on a great journey to the Indies. Columbus was away for a long period of time and people were sure that he and his crew were dead. But after a while, in 7 month Columbus came back with precious metals, tropical animals and dark-skinned people. After all discussions and admirations Columbus invited Amerigo and his friend to a sea voyage back to a new island called Hispaniola. The dreams came true.
