The Choice as the Ethical Problem

Every person at least once in its life faces the problem of choice. It is very difficult to make the right decision, especially if it concerns one’s life. Sometimes life proposes such situations when you seem to be between the devil and deep blue sea.
The Princeton’s Institute of Advanced Science invented so-called game, named “Prisoner’s Dilemma”. The basic idea of this game is to examine the behavior of people while making a choice. The main idea is as follows: two prisoners, who serve their sentence in different cameras, were proposed to do the next: if the first testifies against the other, he will be free, but the other will stay in prison for 3 years. In case they both witness against each other, everyone will get 2 years. There is one more condition: in case they keep silent, they will serve 1 year. Thus, the prisoners face the alternative: cooperation, which is remaining silent, or testifying against each other.
The dilemma is in fact that the prisoner has a choice between two propositions, no more, and it is very difficult to make the right choice, when you do not know the decision of your opponent. The researches showed that this dilemma is affected by the “shadow of the future”, which is peculiar to all the people. The thing is that, whether you cooperate with the other people or not, you will always doubt what the best choise is. It is almost impossible to foresee all the consequences of the decision.
This dilemma may be understood in many ways: it is possible to consider it as the conflict between one person and a group of people. At the same time it can be regarded as fast decision, making very quickly, without any expectations about further cooperation with the other person. Maybe, someone understands it as an ethical and moral principle.
