Compulsive eating is a type of eating disorder. An individual who suffers from compulsive eating will have an uncontrollable urge to eat non-stop or to eat large quantities of food in one sitting. Someone who struggles with compulsive eating will experience consequent weight gain that can be drastic in some cases.

An episode of compulsive eating can occur for many different reasons. Most experts believe that compulsive eating is a way for someone to cope with emotional conflicts, stress and other daily problems. Many people believe that compulsive eating disorder is not taken serious enough. Often times an individual who suffers from compulsive eating will be told to go on a diet or to go to a health spa. This is not a long-term solution to compulsive eating. The only long-term solution is to learn how to cope with the emotions that trigger an episode of compulsive eating.
