The Mazda Oxygen Sensor: Among the Answers to Pollution Problems

Automobiles have been identified and considered as among the major culprits that contribute to the problem on air pollution, a problem that has been afflicting the environment and the health of people for a long time. This is true because there are vehicles which cannot completely burn fuel, manifested by the emission of black smoke in the tail pipe. The darker the smoke emitted is, the more unburned fuel is present in it. This unburned fuel usually comes in the form of hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen. These pollutants contribute to greenhouse effect and destroy the ozone layer. They also afflict people as they cause respiratory diseases. In as much as there is a worldwide clamor to reduce pollutants in the atmosphere, many auto parts makers have already developed anti-pollution vehicle components. Vehicle manufacturers are also already installing anti-pollution devices to the vehicles that they produce so that the emission levels of pollutants from automobiles will be reduced. Even auto enthusiasts have become conscious of the effect of unburned fuel in the atmosphere. For this reason, anti-pollution devices have been crafted and many are now standard parts in vehicles. Mazda models are among the modern autos equipped with these. The Mazda Oxygen Sensor is designed to be installed in the exhaust manifold of every Mazda vehicle.

The Mazda Oxygen Sensor is tasked to monitor the quantity of oxygen that comes with the exhaust gases. Oxygen is a very important element for the combustion of fuel. Without it, the fossil fuel will not be burned and combusted and power will not be produced. In this process, one of the most important factors is ensuring that there is a correct air to fuel mixture supplied to the engine. This can only be attained when the information coming from the Mazda Oxygen Sensor is accurate. The oxygen sensor relays information to the on-board computer about the volume of oxygen that passes through the manifold. Through the data sent by the sensor, the computer will then make the correct adjustments on the air to fuel ratio so that what gets inside the combustion chamber is a correct mixture. This way, there is a guarantee that it will be completely burned. When completely burned, there will be less pollutants coming out of the tail pipe. This makes the atmosphere cleaner and the air becomes devoid of harmful pollutants. This also guarantees the optimization of fuel and the greater amount of horsepower ouput.

Whenever the oxygen sensor is no longer functioning, it is important for it to be replaced with a new one so that the engine will always be as efficient as it should be. Likewise, having a properly operating sensor will also guarantee savings from purchasing fuel. If every vehicle will have a functional oxygen sensor, the problem of air pollutants contributed by the automobiles will be greatly reduced, if not totally eliminated. Inspecting the oxygen sensor everytime the vehicle is brought to the auto mechanic for its regular check-up is therefore important to monitor the sensor’s condition. The earlier the problem is detected, the sooner a solution will be made.
