Compound exercises use more than one muscle group to are effective if you are working out to lose weight first and develop muslce second. Push ups. deadlifts, bench press, and squats are examples of compound exercises.

An Isolation exercise is different from a compound exercies. With it you use only one muscle group. These would include leg extensions, tricep extensions, and bicep curls.

You always want to make sure that your bodybuilding routine concentrates on all areas of your body. Compound exercises will stimulate lots of muscles in your body at the same time. This will help prevent a situation where you have one body area more developed than the other.

We have all seen people with a more pronounced upper body for example and an under developed lower body. This could have possibly been prevented with a proper routine of compund exercises designed to develop the whole body.

If you are new to resistance training, compound exercises are best. Once you have a base level of strength you can add isolation exercises to your workouts for variety and to help shape individual muscles.This is where you use the isolation exercises but only for those muscles you haven't worked out with the compound ones.

One compound exercise that you can do to help you build muscle in your legs and your back is the dead lift. This will not help you upper body but with the hormonal boost that you get it will definitely help with your entire physique.

Another compound exercise that you want to do is the bench press. This is the best way to build muscle in your chest and shoulders. Do this exercise along with the other compound exercises and even some isolation exercises.

Are you noticing a pattern. A compound exercise is effective in building muscles because it forces your body to use more than one muscle group at a time when you are doing the exercise. This does not mean ignore isolation exercises, but to work them into your workout strategy. Concentrate on compound exercises and work in isolation after that. By developing your body evenly you will look better which is all most people need to know anyway.
