Child booster seats are a type of child restraint and is the last kind of child restraint a child will use when travelling in the car. These types of car seats are for children who weigh between 15 and 36kg, which is approximately between 3 and 12 years old. Once a child is 12 years old they no longer need to use a child car seat. If the child is under 12 years old but taller than 135cm tall, they also no longer need to use a child car seat.

What Are Child Booster Seats For?

Child booster seats are used for keeping your child safe and comfortable whilst travelling in your car. The seat gives the child a boost so that they are at the correct height to wear the vehicle seatbelt. When fastening your child into the seat always ensure the belt is sitting over the shoulder and across the lap (not across the stomach).

Some child booster seats don't come with a headrest and back and is just a basic padded seat. The best seats in my opinion are the ones with the head rest and back. These car seats will help to protect your child if a side impact road accident was to occur.

Are Child Booster Seats Really a Must?

Child booster seats are a legal requirement and your child must use one when travelling in your vehicle at all times. The reason child car seats must be used is to ensure your child has a comfortable journey, and more importantly a safe journey. Whether you and your child are going for a long drive or a short drive, your child MUST be securely fastened in their child booster seat. Even if your child makes it difficult for you everytime you go to fasten them in their child seat, just remember why you are doing it. Tell them you love them and you want them to be safe while riding in the car.
