Team Mixed Sport Parlay
For last night's action, I decided to pick just 2 games and parlay them. I chose the Mets, who were gunning for a sweep in St. Louis and the Nuggets as they hosted the Kings who were on the road on the 2nd game of a back to back.
My picks were as follows:
Mets (-107) over Cardinals
Nuggets -8.5 vs. Kings
In the first game, the Mets were looking for a sweep at St. Louis which would feel pretty good against the team that knocked them out of the playoffs. The Mets started John Maine, their Game 6 starter from last year's playoff series, while the Cardinals countered with former Mets closer Braden Looper.
Maine sparkled last night as he was unstoppable, allowing a single hit and 2 walks while striking out 6 in 7 innings of work. Looper pitched well for St. Louis himself, not allowing any runs in the 1st 5 innings. He tired in the 6th however and finished the night allowing 3 runs on 8 hits. Then the Cardinals bullpen imploded, surrendering 7 runs in the final 3 innings. The Mets offense was sparked by 2 home runs from Carlos Beltran and a homer and 3 RBI from Jose Reyes. There were no highlights on St. Louis' side of the ball so I can't really comment on them.
In sweeping the series, the Mets dominated in every aspect of the game by outscoring the Cardinals 20-2 and displaying a superb blend of solid clutch hitting, sound pitching and tremendous defense. The defending World Champs looked utterly helpless in the 3 games series.
With game one in hand, it was now up to the Denver Nuggets to take care of business. The Kings had played a night game the previous night so I was hopeful they would be tired after traveling to Denver. Early on, it looked like I was correct. The Kings looked sluggish early on while Denver was playing solid basketball. The Nuggets led 33-25 after 1 quarter and 71-50 at halftime, while moving the ball well and recording 20 assists.
With 4:48 the Nuggets built back a 15 point lead but the Kings responded with a 12-2 run to close to within 5 and put my win in serious peril. The Nuggets made their foul shots but the game ended with a 120-115 score, thus ruining my parlay. Seems I forgot to realize that the Nuggets are well-known for self destructing in the 4th quarter of games.
Carmelo Anthony led the way with 30 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists while Nene added 28 points and 12 boards. Allan Iverson chipped in with 16 points and 10 assists. Ron Artest led the Kings with 32 points and Kevin Martin added 26 points for Sacramento.
Till next time, may all your bets be winners.
