This year's GSMA (GSM Association) Mobile World Congress brought with it a number of attractive, user-centric mobile phones making use of both the Google Android platform and the Windows Mobile operating system. First held back in 1987, the biggest announcement for this year is the upcoming launch of Windows Phone 7 compatible devices.
This does not mean however, that mobile phone manufacturers have stopped developing devices using older Windows Mobile platforms. Among those upcoming WinMo phones are the Acer neoTouch P300 and the neoTouch P400. Both of these mobile phones will be sporting the Windows Mobile 6.5.3 OS and are targeted towards young professionals.
An Inside Look
The Acer P300 runs efficiently by using a Qualcomm MSM7225 528 MHz processor. It has 2G, 3G, EDGE and Wi-Fi connectivity. The smart phone has an internal memory of 256 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM that is expandable through the use of micro SD cards. There is no Infrared support but Bluetooth (version 2.0 with A2DP) connectivity and GPS with A-GPS support is included. Lastly, a standard 3.5 mm audio jack completes the package.
Easy on the Eyes
The neoTouch P300 is definitely a fun-looking, approachable phone. Measuring at 110 mm high, 55 mm wide and only 15.1 mm deep, the phone is at a lightweight 130.6 g. The simplistic design with its curvy edges gives the phone a very appealing, young look.
The secret to its appeal though, lies in the smart phone's slide out keyboard. The full QWERTY keyboard is comprised of a total of four neat rows. The keys are also backlit, meaning there will never be a moment where you will be fumbling just to type something.
The keys are also designed to be easy on the eyes, with the wide, clear prints of the characters. The practical size of each key was designed to minimize finger cramping and overall, the slide out full QWERTY keyboard truly helps minimize the unnecessary time spent on looking for the right letters.
The vibrant 3.2 inch TFT touch screen equipped to the neoTouch is capable of showing 65K colors. It comes with a 240 x 400 pixel resolution and has a built in accelerometer sensor in order to allow automatic reorientation for the UI display.
Pocket Office Efficiency
With Microsoft backing up the neoTouch P300, the full Pocket Office suite is readily available for its users. Pocket Office is composed of Word for document editing, Power Point for designing presentations, OneNote for keeping lists and short documentations, Excel to view spreadsheets and a handy Adobe PDF reader to handle all business file editing needs while on the go.
Acer wants their supporters to have a stable medium for mobile office productivity. That being said, they have included the Acer Sync feature to the neoTouch P300. What this does is that it synchronizes schedules, notes, email messages and contact details to a laptop by using Microsoft Outlook or optionally through their wireless service called the Cloud. The smart phone is also capable of taking voice memos for instant note recording and information keeping.
With its number of office-related capabilities, the Acer neoTouch P300 is truly a worthy choice for professionals as well as those who are simply looking for a mid-range an all-in-one device.
