The Acer neoTouch P400 was unveiled in this year's Mobile World congress as a part of Acer's new line of WinMo phones. While it looks to be the slightly bigger brother of the Acer beTouch E400, both are definitely worlds apart when it comes to overall user experience.
First, the Basics
The neoTouch P400 is equipped with a Qualcomm 7227 600 MHz processor which is more than sufficient for office-related tasks. It carries the latest update of the Windows Mobile 6.5.3 operating system and has a notable number of office productivity support features courtesy of Microsoft. Specifically, these features are Mail, Microsoft Exchange Server and Pocket Office suite (OneNote, Word, Excel, Power Point along with a PDF viewer).
256 MB RAM and a 512 MB ROM are a default for neoTouch P400s. There is micro USB port as well as a standard 3.5 mm audio jack. A 3.15 megapixel camera is built-in on the phone's rear. It has auto-focus and is geo-tagging capable. The camera is decent although it is unlikely to be the main camera for high resolution travel documentary photos.
Stay Connected While on the Go
Business trips can be a pain, especially if you have to multi-manage the office and plan your trips at the same time. Acer has the answer to minimize travelling stress by providing a wide variety of connectivity features as well as some travel organizing surprises.
Internet connectivity is not a problem since Internet Explorer 6 with IE8 features is packed into the P400. To complement that, built-in Flash support is included as well as WAP 2.0 and of course HTML display capabilities.
Due to the WinMo OS, Windows Live Messaging and MSN instant messaging is readily available for use. Microsoft Bing Search is included to help travel-happy P400 owners make well-informed decisions during times when they are on the move. Bing is focused on four specific areas: shopping information, trip planning, relevant health topics and locating stores and local establishments.
Balancing Work with some R&R
The P400 is not all work, it also features a variety of entertainment options to suit individual tastes. Acer's new WinMo device comes with a Stereo FM radio and Windows Media Player 10 for video and audio playback. Supported video formats are WMV, MP4, H.264 and H.263. Supported audio formats include MP3, WMA, WAV, eAAC+.
Spinlets is pre-installed in the P400. This neat little internet radio app allows streaming on demand featuring emerging artists. The best part is that this app allows the user to post and share selected songs to various social networking sites. A dedicated Youtube app also tags along for the ride. It allows not only video viewing but also video uploads straight from the mobile phone.
Although this phone may not be for Blackberry-loving executives, the Acer neoTouch P400 line certainly seems like it was aimed towards the yuppie crowd. Both functional and packed with entertainment features, it looks to be a very practical middle class business phone for those who value their time and money.
