Acer, a Taiwanese multinational computer and electronics corporation has launched several highly anticipated Android and Windows Mobile devices in this year's Mobile World Congress. Among the Acer mobile phones installed with the Google Android operating system are the Acer Liquid e, the beTouch E400 and the beTouch E1110.
Acer shows equal support for the Windows Mobile platform by releasing the neoTouch P300 and the Acer neoTouch P400 which can be treated as the WinMo counterpart of the beTouch E400 but are a vastly different user experience altogether.
Design without Compromise
The elegantly slim P400 has a stylish chrome finish with subtly tapered ends and it sports Acer's sharply-designed home ring to give it a one up when it comes to style. The 3.2 inch touch screen is entirely black during idle mode. The P400 feels lightweight at only 12 mm thick and weighing only 125 grams.
The smart phone has a TFT resistive touch screen that is capable of displaying a crisp 256K colors with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. A built-in accelerometer gives the phone a means to automatically adjust its orientation to either portrait or landscape depending on how the phone is tilted. A Digital compass is thrown into the package as well.
Efficiency at its Finest
Both of Acer's new WinMo operating system mobile phones launched at MWC 2010 carry the latest version of Windows Mobile 6.5.3. The neoTouch P400 is built with a respectable Qualcomm 7227 600 MHz processor that makes the P400 an excellent mid-range business phone. The vanilla package comes with a 256 MB RAM and a 512 MB ROM. There is a slot for a micro USB as well as the standard 3.5 mm audio jack at the bottom of the mobile phone.
The P400 supports 2G (GSM) and 3G (HSDPA) networks and has Bluetooth (v2.1 with A2DP) as well as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g. It comes with a Stereo FM Radio and a slightly unimpressive 3.15 Megapixel camera with autofocus support.
The P400 Helps You Manage Your Time
Considering that this phone is aimed mostly towards business use, it offers a wide range of streamlined office features. The P400 is capable of providing web-based back-ups as well as wireless synchronization with laptops that makes managing contacts, schedules in the Calendar and document transfers a breeze.
Having the latest release of the WinMo 6.5.3 Professional comes with many perks to supplement the smart phone's intended office use. It has the standard Microsoft Mail program as well as the Microsoft Exchange Server support and a slew of Pocket Office Mobile applications (Word, OneNote, Excel, Power Point and PDF viewer). The WinMo OS is complemented by Internet Explorer 6 for mobile phones that come installed with Flash support.
All in all, the Acer neoTouch P400 is a force to be reckoned with in the line of office phones. It may not have much in terms of innovative features or fancy social networking systems like the Motorola Blur but the efficiency and streamlined business functions make the overall package on-point when it comes to the P400's target market.
