Does twitter work for the marketing business?

I have become what many could say a guru if you will in the marketing sector of the online community that looks to help people and make money at the same time. I have about 200 hundred articles out on the internet and I promote several different products. Now the question I have put out here is does twitter truly bring you more traffic to your websites or your products. At this time I have close to 3500 followers on twitter and I personally receive close to 10,000 tweets' a day. With that many being sent to me alone the question is how would I be able to look at all of these and be able to see which one I would like to look at for more information.
If I have this many being sent to me what happens when I send them out to people that follow me that have lets say the same amount of followers? Well obviously the same thing! Also with this many tweets' that are all looking to give or sell some type of eBook or product to me and all the other followers and almost none of the people on twitter that I have notice truly looking for these eBooks or products as in they are all looking to get you to take an interest in their product or promotion.
For the people out there yes I see that it is beneficial to get your website, product, eBook, or promotion out there and it does help, but truthfully how many of the people seeing it actually are looking for your piece of the pie and not looking to get you to sign up for theirs'. Is this anymore beneficial for you as a sales person ?
If the amount of people on twitter are online marketers (sales people) which is what I have seen then what percentage of the people are looking for the product you wish to give them? That is the big question. Most marketing professionals need to be social marketers and get their name known before any amount of sales will happen. By gaining the trust of your followers in any aspect of marketing is the key to making any amount of money.
Social marketing is what it sounds like, being social and offering to help people with things they need help with. If you constantly try to sell something to someone that is not social marketing. Advise, marketing tips, and other forms of helping someone is your best bet to making any money online if you are looking to sell information and not an actual product like perfume' or sporting goods. The more you research your own product the more knowledge you gain to be the marketing guru that everyone out there claims to be. Learn your product and earn your money.
The next step for any type of marketing online would have to be SEO or (search engine optimization) this is where you find the most relevant keywords for your promotion and you will have to be very open minded about this part. Most of the keyword phrases used today are over saturated on the internet and if you use these you will not rank high enough in the search engines to bring the traffic you want to your site. Google Adsense, Adwords, Reader, Blogger, Talk, and webmaster tools are very helpful in this part of your work and don't forget Google groups. These are the tools you will use with Google. Okay now the next thing you will need is a domain name! This is imperative to have in order to make any money! There are several ways to go about this step as there are several .coms out there. After you have your product and your website you will need an e-mail auto-responder, this is yet another crucial part of your business along with an opt-in page to build an e-mail list of people that wish to receive the information or product promotions you are giving. Now that you have this you need to get people to this page. This is where you will need to either write articles, join a social network, blog, work in forums, and yes twitter. All of these will help bring traffic to your opt-in page. But you will have to make this page very appealing and an easy read for all the visitors. If you make it to difficult to follow or to sales pitch they will not opt-in to your e-mails.
