In a bid to help SMEs in Cebu go ‘green' and adopt eco-friendly means of operations, the European Commission recently released grants worth P65 million. The grant will be extended in the form of technical assistance programme to Cebu-based SMEs, including exporters with a view to help them resort to environment-friendly practices and green modes of operations.
Pursuance of legitimate eco-friendly and green tools by SMEs will also help to establish and consolidate Cebu as a significant player in the green markets of Europe and Asia.
Nearly 450 small-scale exporters in Cebu are expected to gain from the innovative programme - SMEs for Environmental Accountability, Responsibility and Transparency (SMART-Cebu). This project, which is designed to promote cleaner and greener production modes and eco-friendly tools, is a part of the programme under which grants worth P300 million has been allocated for several industries in the Philippines, including tourism in Palawan and SME firms in Metro Manila.
With the help of SMART-Cebu programme, domestic industries can enhance their competitiveness and serve the fast emerging green markets in a better way.
