"Gurren Lagann" is a Japanese television series that went for 27 episodes in 2007. "Gurren Lagann" is set in the future, an age when human beings are forced to live more deeper subterranean to protect themselves from ongoing tremors. Humans survive in secluded subterranean slums. 1e such place, Giha, is the home of Simon, a skilled young "digger" (one who toils at the method of taking the homes increasingly downward) who is secluded with many of his peers. Simon befriends another miner, a spirited, egotistical teenager named Kamina, who desires to emerge to the surface of the earth.
One day when working, Simon discovers a huge, bizarre face. Shortly thereafter, the town is attacked by a mecha (a "mecha" is a class of large bipedal robot sometimes found in science fiction stories and comics). Simon discovers that, using a special object he unearthed earlier, he can activate the large face he found; in this method he destroys the robot and breaks through to the top of the planet. Following him are Kamina and Yoko, a female he met who courageously tried to battle the mecha. This, however, is just the beginning of the story, which continues with the adventures of Simon, Kamina, and Yoko on the surface, where they encounter a lot more mechas.
"Gurren Lagann" also has a fascinating idea grounded upon "spirals" and "anti spirals" that adds a certain layer of cerebral intensity to the action story.
"Gurren Lagann" has gone to various other media following its popularity, including 2 video games, two animated movies, and a original comic series.
