The downright most important thing in caring for sensitive skin, is moisturizer. You must select the correct sensitive skin moisturizer in order to 'toughen up' your skin.

Did you know that people with sensitive skin tend to have less break outs? That is surely a plus! That also means that your choice of facial cleanser is significant- but not nearly as critical as the moisture you use to nourish your skin. However, acknowledge that even though your sensitive skin is not prone to acne and it is, well, sensitive- so do not use a harsh cleanser.

When selecting a moisturizer, look for ones that include Vitamin E, antioxidants, vitamin and other plant extracts. If you have highly sensitive skin, avoid fragrances, dyes, and salicylic acid. These may irritate your skin- but just to be sure of the safety, you may want to test a potential moisturizer on a swatch of your skin. Try the skin inside your elbow, because it is also fairly sensitive and is a good signifier of how your facial skin will react.

If you experience red, painful patches, or spots of inflamed or flaky skin; then I beseech you to step back and look at your beauty regimen. I realize that these skin conditions can be uncomfortable or even embarrassing. Do not assume that these conditions are something you will always just have to suffer through, because in most cases- these conditions can be treated.

To test what substance you are having an adverse reaction to, cease your beauty regime for a couple of days. Purchase a very gentle cleanser and an oil-free/fragrance-free moisturizer (exederm offer wonderful options) and use those products for three days. If you notice your condition inproving then very slowly ease back into your beauty regimen. And I do mean ease. Try to re-introduce make up and skin products one-by-one so you can pin-point what you are having a problem with. You could be allergic to something in your make up, normal cleanser, or to fragrances in skin products. If none of these substances seem to be the issue, contemplate whether it could be hair products or perfumes that are accidentally coming into contact with your face.

If none of those options seem to be the culprit, perhaps it is time to take a look at your diet. You could suffer from a food allergy or sensitivity that is throwing off the natural balance of your body- and showing itself through your skin. You would be amazed just how many problems are actually rooted in your diet.

Though, if nothing else, invest in a great moisturizer to nourish and re-build your sensitive skin to the healthy radiance that you so deserve.
