In today's market, you hear the terms organic and certified organic all the time. If you are confused by what exactly it means to be organically certified, then you will want to read on. We will be taking a look at the definition of certified organics, the standards certified products must meet and why you should choose organic products that have been certified. After reading this article you should have a clear understanding of what it means when a product states that it is USDA certified as organic.

What is certified organic?

When we say that a product is certified, this means that an independent third party has reviewed the product and is guaranteeing the claim that it is organic. What this means to you is that you can count on the integrity of the product because it has been independently reviewed and guaranteed. In the United States, a product is only certified organic if it bears the USDA logo. Do not be fooled by products that simply say they are "natural" or "organic". There is no guarantee that a product is pure without the USDA certified logo.

What are the standards for a product to be organically certified?

When determining if product can be certified as organic, the total weight of the product is calculated. The water and salt are then removed to determine the total net weight. After this, the total weight of organic ingredients is calculated. This number is divided by the net weight. To be considered for organic certification, the number must be at least 95%.

Also, no synthetic processes or preservatives can be used in certified organic products. Additionally, the products must have been created without irradiation and animal testing.

Why choose certified organic?

The reason that most people choose certified organic products are because their health is important to them. They want to stay as far away from harmful toxins as they can. As opposed to products that are merely organic, you can choose certified organics knowing that they have been independently examined for purity and that they are indeed free from toxins. If the integrity of products your chose is important to you, products that are certified to be organic are the way to go. Also, choosing USDA certified organics supports farmers who choose to use the earth resources in sustainable and ethical ways.

Hopefully, you now have a clear idea of what it means for a product to be certified as organic. Choosing organic products is a great way to support the environment and improve your health. Keeping toxins and chemicals out of your body is a great way to minimize disease.
