Every year the sale of perfumes makes up a massive part of the yearly sales for some of the high streets biggest retailers. There is a massive range available and the major department stores rely on the success of a variety of fragrances to keep up their profits. However, not all perfumes are successful and there will always be those that outsell their competitors. Several recent surveys revealed which of the range of fragrances where the markets top sellers in 2009.This article provides a run-down of the top five most popular fragrances last year.
5. Gucci Rush
The award winning Gucci Rush narrowly makes it onto the top five list with its very unusual packaging. This playful fragrance has been a top seller since its release a decade ago. It's vibrant and quirky electric pink packaging makes it instantly standout at a department stores perfume counter. It's slightly old fashioned but sweet scent is very popular with young women.
4. Davidoff Cool Water
This slightly retro fragrance has been going for over 20 years and often been a bit of a cult outsider in the perfume world. The company Davidoff are often better known for producing cigars and cognac for what some might consider the more ‘discerning' clientele. Cool Water is synonymous with adverts involving attractive people rolling around in or around water. This fragrance is particularly popular in the men's variety.
3. Prada Eau de Toilette
The most modern fragrance in our list has earned the third spot in part due to celebrity culture. While it was reasonably popular already, its sales shot up after Jennifer Aniston revealed it was her favourite fragrance.
2. Calvin Klein Eternity
Calvin Klein's Eternity has remained popular for over 20 years due to its subtle yet elegant fragrance along with it popular ad campaign featuring Christly Turlington. Klein touted the fragrance as a return towards family values, and the fragrance was dedicated to his own marriage. Ironically for a fragrance named Eternity the marriage ended in divorce not long after.
1. Chanel No. 5
No. 5 has been a popular and top selling fragrance for almost a century and is renowned for the sense of class and sophistication attached to it. Consistently a top seller it was the top selling fragrance of 2009.
This year there are a variety of fragrances which could make the top list.
Jean Paul Gaultier perfume has always been popular and
lacoste touch of pink has grown infinitely more popular in the last year.
However, it is likely that many of the top fragrances from last year will remain in or around the top spot.
