A new year has descended upon us, and all across the country and beyond people are beginning to take action on the various new year's resolutions which they proposed for themselves. A new year means a new opportunity to get things right in a variety of aspects of our lives, with absolutely nothing being off-limits here; surely one area where many people are going to try to take action as a part of their new year's resolution will be home security in general. It is practically impossible to achieve a "perfect" security set up at home and it is incredibly easy to get your security set up absolutely and horrendously wrong, making this fertile ground for new year's resolutions in general. In light of this top priority for many people throughout the country, here we have put together five great ideas for beefing up security at your home that cover a variety of aspects of home security—read on and see what you've been missing out on and where you stand to improve your home set up.
1. Surveillance cameras. This is one security measure that many people initially consider to be a little too drastic or complicated but which quickly proves to be a good idea. Any person that has suffered a break in and burglary and has no idea how it all went down—much less who did it—knows just how excellent a surveillance camera system can be for security purposes. Not only will the footage from your CCTV system be able to be used as evidence in a court of law, possibly helping prosecute the culprit and get your belongings back, but in the worst of cases it will at least help point out where the burglar entered and hence where you have a security weak spot.
2. Home automation systems. Here's a revolutionary home security idea that will also make many other aspects of your home life so much more…well, automatic. Imagine having every electrical or electronic appliance in your home hooked up to a central control system, and then imagine just how much you stand to gain from that reality. Activate security lighting inside or outside the house on a fixed schedule even if you're not around (in fact, this sort of thing is great for protecting your home when you are not around).
3. Fingerprint or number combination door locks. Here's a home security solution that will also save you from the incredibly annoying and common quandary of forgetting your keys somewhere. Either a fingerprint or number combination door lock will ensure that the risk of thrifty thieves with a screwdriver and pin is averted altogether.
4. Concealed safes. Here's a home security idea that will keep things inside the home safe if a burglar actually does manage to break in. Forget the safe behind the picture frame or under the bed—those ideas are burnt out and abused. Use a concealed safe installed between the studs of your wall or inside the floor itself; they're much more effective and, as they're installed, they can't just be hauled off to be forced open elsewhere.
5. Get an evaluation! T finish, we recommend that you actually have a security technician revise your house and listen to their specific ideas for improving security at your home.
