The scientists examined subjects who had been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis between 1996 and 2003. Each patient detailed their history of exposure to various types of oils, including asphalt and engine oil.
The results seemed to indicate that exposure to hydraulic or motor oil is associated with two forms of rheumatoid arthritis. This confirms results from previous tests performed on rats.
This is only one of several odd-seeming apparent risk factors for RA; others include having a blood transfusion, eatinglarge amountsof red meat, and having a well in your garden.
