I'm Craig Fenton the author of "Take Me To A Circus Tent", a book on the Jefferson Airplane. Deciding to write a book is one thing but to find a different angle isn't always easy. I didn't want to reinvent the wheel or in this case the plane. I decided I would take the flight on a path it has never seen.
The first task was to gather as many rare photos as possible. I came up with about one hundred and twenty. I had room for ninety-three. There were pictures that had never seen the light of day before. Herb Greene the photographer known for the cover of the "Surrealistic Pillow" record supplied many of the treasures and Don Aters the man that has snapped many award winning shots for forty years contributed as well. I was able to line-up thirty interviews from Airplane members and those part of the spin-off bands, as well as some San Francisco friends. The Airplane known for their stage genius should have some accurate information on their live history. I gathered information on one hundred twenty-one performances and documented them. I then was allowed the key to the vault (Not that vault. Authors are always starving). I unlocked the door to sixty unreleased songs and the like hidden away until now. As a former radio Disc-Jockey for ten years I had some great questions asked about the Airplane and family of bands. I took two hundred sixty-six and made a question answer segment.
The book came together in a big way. Five hundred forty-three pages of Airplane history for you fine folks on board.
What I never imagined would be the emails from around the world. Why are people thanking me for the book? In all honesty I am the one that is grateful to all those that have purchased the books and told me about their thoughts. When you read many five star reviews, you are frozen in your tracks as to how lucky you are.
What changes? Funny you ask. How about between the promotional calls and emails I have snail mail that has been sitting in the kitchen for months. Is that the reason I don't currently have electricity, cable or a car? I'll call a plane.
Hope to see you on the next flight to www.takemetoacircustent.net
