Do you remember when you first found out Santa Claus not to exist? I remember, it was 28 years ago. I will start from the beginning. Growing up as an only child was a little rough. Because it usually meant I had to learn and find out things all on my own. All my friends had brothers and sisters that usually told them the bad news about Santa Claus. I had to used my six-year-old investigative skills to learn of Santa clauses existence.
I woke up one morning and I noticed my mother was busy doing laundry and other household chores. So usually when she is busy doing household chores and laundry I was able to get a little sneaky because she was a little too busy to keep full attention on me. So I knew my parents never hid my Christmas gifts in our house. I also knew my grandmother who lived right next door to us was going to be out of town for a few days. So I grabbed her spare key that she keeps at our house and decided to do little bit of investigation work.
Well I get to my grandmother's side door and I try the key and it worked!. So I go in and I start searching the house for any of my hidden presents. I search in the kitchen and find nothing. I search the spare bedroom and again I find nothing. So I entered my grandmother's master bedroom I walk over to the closet and opened it and Low and behold I find the mother lode as it all came crashing down on top of me. I got super excited to see all the presents and I noticed most toys were on my Christmas list. But then I noticed something, these toys were on the list I wrote to Santa Claus. But I thought nothing of it and figured my parents bought me these so Santa Claus would surely bring me something else. So I put all the toys back in the closet and ran back home and put the spare key away. This is Christmas Eve.
Five AM Christmas Day. I wake up and run to the Christmas tree and underneath is loaded with presents I see some from mom and dad and I see some from Santa Claus. So I run to wake up my parents and tell them Santa Claus was here. So me and my parents head to the living room to start opening presents. And as with my own little personal tradition I open the presents that my parents got me first. And then I open the presents from Santa Claus. And this is where Santa Claus becomes myth and not fact to me. I open the first present from Santa clause and then the second and the third and so on and so on. I've seen these presents before, these were the same presents that came crashing down on me the day before. And right there and then I knew Santa Claus did not exist.
I learned lesson that Christmas day. That lesson was never to snoop because you might not like what you find out. And that has had a big effect on my life. From that day on I never snooped in anything. And that Christmas Day was the day Santa Claus disappeared from my life.
