Very few people out there actually enjoy or look forward to speaking in front of a crowd. The majority of people would in fact admit to dreading having to talk in public, especially if the speech is in front of either our friends, family or work colleagues.
I have never enjoyed the public speaking experience either but I now at least have a number of successful public speaking strategies that I am able to follow.
Firstly preperation is the key. I always plan in detail what I am going to say on the big day. I like to commence the speech with a simple, easy to understand joke. This helps to break the ice and if this joke receives a positive response from the audience it could give a massive boost to my overall confidence.
During the speech itself I always try to talk quite slowly compared with my normal rate. This is to help me to remember my plans and also to help me not to stutter!
I also like to breath on a much more frequent basis than what I again would normally do. I also like to use pictures as props which take some of the attention away from me.
