"Let's keep it real for… April 1st!"

If you are reading this and you are 30 or older there's a 99% chance that the job you are going to today is the job you will go to for the rest of your working days.

Today is Friday which means payday for most people, the amount you receive today is the amount you will make the rest of your working days. Yes, you will get a raise every other year but it won't be enough to keep up with inflation so you will actually be making less.

Hopefully you have been saving 25% of everything you have been making because it doesn't look like SS is going to help you (did we really ever think it would?).

Now about your job, yes you may go to work for a different company but it will still be the same type of work. You will go because the grass is always greener only to find out that you should have stayed where you were, at least there you knew what kind of jerk your boss was.

Don't start getting depressed on me. Tomorrow is Saturday which means most of you have the day off, which gives you plenty of time to think about how miserable your life is. Don't worry, Saturday is the day most states hold the lottery, which means you can go wait in line with all the other BIG dreamers and talk about what you are going to do once you win.

While you are there, pick up a case of beer because I hate to break it to you but you are probably not going to win. Don't get upset you have the beer and CNN; between the two you will realize that you have a pretty good life.

If the beer and CNN don't make you feel better by Sunday, buy another case of beer slap your wife or girl-friend around and blame all of your misfortune on her. If you are a single mother slap your kids around and blame your misfortune on them.

Make sure you get the slapping around done early enough so that you still have time to get plenty of sleep remember you still have to go to work tomorrow because you just spent the money for the lights on beer. Then . . . .April fool's!

I'm sure most of you caught on to what I was doing a long time ago. The sad thing is that this is reality for a lot of people not April fool's. Below I have given you the history behind April fools.

April fool's day from: http://wilstar.com/holidays/aprilfool.htm

The closest point in time that can be identified as the beginning of this tradition was in 1582, in France. Prior to that year, the New Year was celebrated for eight days, beginning on March 25. The celebration culminated on April 1. With the reform of the calendar under Charles IX, the Gregorian Calendar was introduced, and New Year's Day was moved to January 1.

However, communications being what they were in the days when news traveled by foot, many people did not receive the news for several years. Others, the more obstinate crowd, refused to accept the new calendar and continued to celebrate the New Year on April 1. These backward folk were labeled as "fools" by the general populace. They were subject to some ridicule, and were often sent on "fools errands" or were made the butt of other practical jokes.

This harassment evolved, over time, into a tradition of prank-playing on the first day of April. The tradition eventually spread to England and Scotland in the eighteenth century. It was later introduced to the American colonies of both the English and French. April Fool's Day thus developed into an international fun fest, so to speak, with different nationalities specializing in their own brand of humor at the expense of their friends and families.

Until we meet again, keep a smile on your face, me in
your prayers and God in your heart.

As always, your comments are welcomed.

Have a better than Outstanding Day!
