SRAM, called static random access memory, is superior version of regular DRAM (Dynamic RAM). SRAM memory needs no refresh at all; it will maintain its information so long as it has sufficient power to keep it. This is because of internal architecture, the SRAM components is built of flip-flop circuitry, which does not depend on refreshing.
SRAM is more expensive than DRAM due to density issue and flip-flop circuitry, but significantly less power hungry (especially idle) than DRAM. The power consumption of SRAM varies widely depending on how frequently it is accessed; it can be as power-hungry as dynamic RAM, when used at high frequencies, and some ICs can consume many watts at full bandwidth. On the other hand, static RAM used at a somewhat slower pace, such as in applications with moderately clocked microprocessors, draw very little power and can have a nearly negligible power consumption when sitting idle — in the region of a few micro-watts.
Another point which favors SRAM memory card is its fast speed. Typical SRAM devices are much faster than traditional DRAM memory and thus can be used along side the processor as cache—temporarily keep data— while it performs other duties. Its speeds allow quicker accesses in comparison to DRAMs which must wait several processor clock cycles before providing the needed information.
Furthermore, SRAM modules are sold in a wide variety of configurations, and vary according to speed, pin configuration, and power consumption characteristics. Small SRAM buffers are also found in CDROM and CDRW drives; usually 256 kB or more are used to buffer track data, which is transferred in blocks instead of as single values. The same applies to cable modems and similar equipment connected to computers.

With some amounts of kilobytes or less, this memory card is embedded in all modern appliances, toys etc that implements an electric user interface.
