CV Creation by Asif Arif
Your CV has to be no more than 2 sides of paper and it should always be typed. Work out all your information in draft first then choose a style that suits the particular company or job you are applying for.
Make sure your CV lands in the Contact for interview pile and not in the waste bin. Did you know that most CVs are discarded after 20 seconds if there are any spelling mistakes or typos in them? Make sure yours is checked - there is help with drafting at school and with with applying for jobs see my booklet Application Forms Clinic by Asif Arif available from the Office}.
Make your CV stand out from the rest. Good quality paper is essential and don't embellish your grades, skills or abilities - you must be able to back up information you give with examples or references.
This is your chance to sell yourself - Good Luck - Asif Arif.
Here is your guide to creating a CV that will get YOU noticed after you leave.
There are three main types of CVs Skills Style, Capabilities and Chronological style.
Skills Style - this will list all the work related skills you have for a particular job. This style uses different headings to outline your different strengths. You should remember to list the headings in order of importance to the job - for example if you want to work in a vet surgery then a love of animals is important. It is always best to include work experience in any CV and if you haven't very much experience then consider volunteering.
Capabilities Style - this CV will outline all your main abilities that you want the employer to notice about you. Try to choose successes that relate to the specific nature of the job you are applying for. There is a personal profile section which gives the potential employer a sketch of how well you capabilities match those needed for the job you are applying for. This style can be very useful if you have gaps in your education as these listings come later and the focus is on the achievements you choose to promote.
Chronological Style - this is the most straightforward CV style and lists everything in chronological date order. Information will include all you school and work experience like a timeline in History. Remember start your lists from the most recent first.
