New York City is one of the world's most-visited cities in the world for a reason. There's just so much to see and do in the fabled 'city that never sleeps' that brings millions of tourists to the big city every year - many of them being return visitors.

If you're going on holiday to New York and want to make sure you get the most out of your trip, you're probably already doing your research so you can discover the best attractions you know you'll want to find the time for - but there's so many to choose from, this can end up being a difficult task! However, there are some staple spots in New York that you should definitely visit when you go - and then you'll know you've really seen the highlights of the most famous city in the world.

The first thing most people will tell you to do in New York City is to just take a walk through its myriad criss-crossing streets, exploring the centre of Manhattan on foot. This is excellent advice: as large as New York is, it's relatively self-contained and many of its top highlights are within walking distance of one another. Starting in Times Square, the historic and well-known media centre of New York, you can explore the streets and avenues stretching away from this centre and rest assured that whatever direction you take will point you towards amazing attractions. Be sure to visit the Toys R Us in the locale and meet the formidable T Rex, a giant replica of the scariest dinosaur.

For a more traditional attraction, the Empire State Building not only offers an exhilaratingly enjoyable indoor rollercoaster ride, but also affords the best views of the city - if you're not to scared to take the elevator all the way to the top, that is. Standing as one of the highest buildings in New York City, the Empire State Building really offers an amazing experience, as well as fantastic photo opportunities.

Back on land - or on water - a boat trip out to meet the Statue of Liberty can provide a poignant addition to a holiday in New York, letting you see the city from the sea as well as climb up Lady Liberty and discover the wonders of this breathtaking monument.

These are just some of the most commonly popular things to do in New York - but they're definitely things worth getting out of New York hotels in the morning to enjoy!
