Search Engines have their living spiders knows as bots which are actually responsible for ranking and indexing your websites. I will discuss in depth about these spiders in later course. The favorite food for these spiders is content in the form of text. They do eat other food like images, video etc but text content is the brownie for them.

Again in text contents there are priorities set and keywords rank the top most position based on my experience with them. Keywords are that one word, two word or more word phrases that actually describes the crux of the website. Keywords are those that tell search engine spiders what the whole website is all about.

For example let's take eBay. eBay is an auction / bidding / shopping portal where in various items are bid /sold. Hence if eBay could use its keyword list in relevance to their portal as auction site, buy items, online shopping etc. That is one of the reasons why when a netizen types in search engines like Google and yahoo they get eBay links for such keywords.

Keywords can be placed in the meta tags, header, footer, body contents, menu. But DO NOT overload your website by repeating your keywords. Search Engine Spiders are very smart and will black list you if you do so. They know people misuse the importance of keyword and hence to protect the importance of keywords they will do that.

You could use keywords in variation in your content and image tags. This would be one of the best ethical ways. Search Engine Spiders will find the percentage of you keywords and do what they have to do.
