The Royal Theatre in Plymouth is one of the region's best exponents of British and International art and culture. It is also a major producing and receiving house that consists of a large air conditioned auditorium and smaller experimental theatre wing known as the "Drum." The theatre is renowned for hosting a number of West End musicals through out the year and opera and & performances, smaller theatre groups also perform experimental drama, dance and musical performances here as well.

When the auditorium is at full capacity it can seat 1,315 patrons, however the theatre has a unique ability to compress its seating arrangements and to make it a cozier 787, which makes for a much more intimate performance space.

The experimental "Drum" theatre is an unmatched venue in the South End that has gained popularity worldwide for the brave themes featured in its dramas and their modernist feel. The small seating capacity of 200 seats is ideal for this kind of performance and it was twice nominated for the Peter Brook Empty Space Award for the quality of the line up and the latest technologies that were used.

A relatively new introduction at the Royal Theater in Plymouth is the Theatre Royal 2; it is mostly a learning centre that is unique in the British Isles. The architecture of the building has won many awards and the striking waterfront locale on the River Plym makes it a sought after venue. Among the performances staged at the Royal Theatre in Plymouth during 2008 are the Rambert Dance Company, Birmingham Royal Ballet and the musical Quadrophenia.

Situated in the heart of the British West Midlands, the Plymouth Royal Theatre is in close proximity of many Plymouth hotels, and makes it easy for travelers to indulge in some fine art and culture while on their vacation or business trip.
