The original BBC iplayer service was launched undergoing a five month long trial of five thousand broadband users. The BBC iplayer came under criticism for the delay in launch, rebranding and cost to BBC licence-fee payers, as no finished product had been released after four years of development. A new, improved BBC iplayer service then had another very limited user trial.

There are lots of sites on the internet that show how BBC iplayer abroad can be paid and watched. However while it is possible to watch BBC iplayer abroad for free it is not actually shown how.

As there is no charge for this service, a survey needs to be completed, which can be chosen, before getting access to BBC iplayer. The surveys are all different, and many of them give free products.

Most radio programmes can be accessed globally, with the exception of a few programmes, mainly sports broadcasts that are affected by rights issues. One quirk is that mobile devices such as the iPod Touch and iPhone cannot access radio overseas via BBC iplayer whereas computers can.

There are a lot of different methods of recording BBC iPlayer apart from one. BBC iplayer is the first of the platforms developed to allow internet users to watch archived streaming BBC programmes. Channels 4 and 5 also have this service, but in a much more limited way, and some of their programmes cost money BBC iPlayer is free.
Best features: can be downloaded to watch later (this uses up boring train journeys really well), or streaming can be watched.
User can catch up on BBC channels that aren't shown on terrestrial - BBCs 3 and 4. User can also listen to BBC radio shows again, which can be downloaded to an MP3 player/iPod. BBC iPlayer can be watched in a small window, or full screen.

It only covers BBC programmes. It is reliant on a fast reliable broadband connection (not much the beed can do about that though). BBC iPlayer is not as good as watching it on TV. BBC iPlayer is only 7 days worth on there. Technical problems can sometimes arise; it can only have the shows for a certain amount of time. BBC iPlayer sometimes malfunctions but that's very rare. There is slow streaming sometimes.
