Compared to other leading brands of memory foam mattresses the Isotonic mattress range is a lot cheaper. If you can't afford a Tempur-Pedic the Isotonic memory foam mattress may seem like a good option, but is it? Here are some points to consider if you're thinking of buying one.

Isotonic mattresses can cost around 50% less than their equivalent Tempur-Pedic counterparts. This is definitely the biggest incentive for potential buyers. But why are they so cheap and will you be getting a good quality product?

Let's talk about cost. There are a number of reasons why this mattress is cheaper than other brands. The company spends nothing on advertising. Instead, it lets retailers tell their customers about its benefits and what a good product it is. Other major manufacturers spend millions each year on advertising, so this is not an insignificant saving.

The company is also committed to cutting costs during the manufacturing process; the latest manufacturing techniques are used. In addition, the company has cut down on personnel costs; you won't find a top-end heavy management hierarchy with this company.

Lastly, and most importantly, is that the entry-point Isotonic mattress is made from 4lb density visco-elastic foam. Other brands like Restonic, Tempur-Pedic, Simmons and Sealy memory foam mattresses use 5lb density foam. Using a lighter foam density has two important consequences. Firstly, there's more air and less foam, which reduces costs and secondly, the Isotonic mattress tends to feel softer than many other leading brands.

You may be concerned that a softer mattress won't last as longer as its firmer competitors. However, the company insists that its foam has 4 times the compression set of the Tempur-Pedic memory foam, which they claim, means its mattresses will last longer.

While this claim may be true, other brands might beg to differ - obviously each manufacturer will claims its mattress will give you many years of trouble free service.

Personally, I think you should pay more attention to the firmness of the mattress. If you like a soft mattress then the Isotonic could be an ideal choice; it's softer and cheaper. However, if you prefer a firm mattress then perhaps you should consider another brand like Tempur or Sealy.

No matter what memory foam mattress you buy you should pay attention to the foundation layer of foam. This foundation layer is not comprised of visco-elastic foam, but plain, high-density foam. It's the foundation layer that helps to retain the shape of the mattress and improve its longevity. The foam used in an Isotonic mattress is Omalon - a very high-grade, high-density foam with a proven track record of retaining its shape. This is definitely a major plus point with this mattress.

There are other plus points, such as an anti-bacterial Belgian weave that encases the mattress; however many other brands offer similar, if not better, coverings.

In conclusion, the Isotonic mattress is certainly not a second-rate product and is a great choice if you like a soft mattress and you can't afford or are unwilling to spend the money on other brands names like Tempur, Simmons, Restonic or Sealy.
