A Career through Education and Learning

Why do people willingly throw themselves into constant stress and endless hours of homework after finishing high school? Is college seen as a time of happy living, fun, and everlasting joy? Probably not, but those who decide to take the plunge have caught the vision. What vision is that? Well, it is the vision of happy living, fun, and everlasting joy which can be provided by landing that dream job. Granted, the job may not be the dream, but the opportunities and the lifestyle it opens up just might be.

We often hear people say "you're living the dream"; it is my opinion that each of us has the potential to live by that statement; but in order to get there, hard work and risks has to be taken. So here are a few ideas which can be considered in creating your career through education:

  1. A College Degree: This portion of your education is in my opinion, a manner in which a student can prove to employers that you finish what you start. It takes dedication to spend four years working toward something that doesn't give immediate results. It is an investment which if marketed correctly can create opportunities which otherwise wouldn't have come along.

  2. Experience: Searching through different job sites, well paid positions are requiring experience along with education. It is important to obtain your degree, but if you do not have any marketable skills to add to your degree, employers may pass you up. It will require sacrifice to gain an education and experience at the same time, but the benefits will pay off. Seek opportunities to perform internships, job shadowing, and relevant working skills to the field which you plan to enter.

  3. Masters Degree: I hope you're ready to work. A master's degree will prepare you for some of the most technical situations which can be faced in your current or future career. Here you can tone your specialized skill set and gain recognition for your achievements. Be prepared for hard work, but at the same time look forward to reaping the benefits.

  4. Certifications: Ready to zone in on extremely specialized skills? A certification is your opportunity to gain more technical skills in the work place. There are many different routes which can be taken here, such as Microsoft certifications, Novell certifications, Cisco, and much more. A certification can be earned at any point throughout your career. The benefits of a certification are much like a degree, in the sense that recognition for the achievement is given through higher wages and better job opportunities. It may assist in getting your foot in the door for the interview.

Obviously there are many different things which can be completed to build chances of success in your career. Through continued learning everyone can increase their ability to perform in certain situations.
