First dates are taxing enough without adding the uncomfortable moments and silences that are bound to happen when with a new person. This blog throws some light on how to avoid or defuse awkward moments so that both you and your date can turn out to be super smooth and you have an enjoyable time while spending the evening together. Some things are beyond your control and are downright unavoidable; but you can specifically choose your words and actions wisely so that they are less likely to happen.

READ ON TO MAKE IT SMOOTHLY THROUGH YOUR DATE!

STEP 1
Keep the conversation light. Avoid talking about controversial or embarrassing issues. While you may be passionate about universal health care or women's choice issues, these are topics you must never bring up on the first date. Your first date can also turn out to be your first big fight. And that is not the best start to a blossoming relationship. Avoid extreme personal details as well. Or even your medical history for that matter.

STEP 2
Always plan the date beforehand. Work out date logistics before the date, such as who will pay or when the date will end. (A very crucial step) Of course, you can choose to go with the flow if the date is going well, but asking her to pull out her purse when you didn't tell her you were going Dutch is could turn out to be not so pleasant. Also, you cannot forget about your appearance and basic hygiene. Always smell good for your date. Do not forget to dab your deo spray to make a good impression.

STEP 3
Make a joke - and not a lame one. It will help break the ice. If the conversation lulls or you have a misstep, joking to your date could get you out of the ill ease zone. Observe your surroundings and make him laugh to resolve awkward moments. If you trip on your way back from the men's room, bring attention to it by making a joke about your graceful tendencies. When she sees you laughing at the awkwardness, she will too, and the moment will be over.

STEP 4
Ask questions. In the end, everyone loves to talk about themselves, so asking about his family, education, job and interests will keep the conversation moving smoothly. Make sure that the questions don't sound like an interview, flowing easily from one to another. Ask about his profession and what area of study he followed. Also refrain talking about previous relationships and heartbreaks. Not the most ideal conversation topic.

STEP 5
Skip the end of the night kiss unless you both are clearly besotted. Look for signs that she's gazing deep into your eyes or fiddling with her keys, trying to prolong the moment. If she avoids your gaze or goes in for a hug only, don't press the issue. Wait for a call or text that indicates how the date felt to her. If you do decide to go in for the kiss, make sure you dab some irresistible body spray!
