A spotlight was first cast on Chamonix in 1924 when it held the Winter Olympics and ever since then, its popularity hasn't stopped growing. Located at the foot of Mont Blanc in Eastern France, Chamonix gives you countless experiences all within this little valley. Best known for its variety of sports activities, it'll give you what you came for; adventure.

If you visit during winter, the first and foremost thing to try? Skiing.
There're plenty of ski valleys, all of which offer something different. Try Le Domaine de Balme, a ski area that has more of a nature feel to it or if you're up for a ski area with wide open spaces, head for The Grands Montets. Each of the ski areas have both trails for beginners right up to the ski fans and experts, so everyone enjoys their skiing experience to the fullest.

Another activity worth trying, though less well known, would be Dog-sledding. Get your own team of husky dogs and blaze a trail throughout the paths of the forest. Learn the basics and "mushing" just like in the movies and enjoy the thrilling experience of trying to keep it all together. If you're not too confident of your abilities to lead a sled team ( of course being accompanied by expert musher's ) , you can choose the option of sitting in the sled as the guide does all the hard work and you get to enjoy the exhilarating experience either way.

Don't think that if you visit Chamonix in the summer though, there's nothing for you there. Many activities await you, but one to really try would be Paragliding. If flying solo scares you, try tandem paragliding where you and an experienced pilot will take to the skies, and you get to enjoy the view and the experience without having to stress out over anything. This activity is for the young and old and is a perfect way to see Chamonix from a birds eye view.

Another summer activity certainly not to miss out would be white water rafting. With trained guides, go down the waters of the Alps on a raft with a pure adrenaline rush or choose even a full day excursion. Whichever way you want it, you won't be disappointed as this is will truly make your trip unforgettable.

For those wanting to experience the full beauty of Chamonix without all the adrenaline but while still having a little fun, try going on a panoramic helicopter tour. Relax as you fly over the glaciers and / or the mountain tops and take in the breathtaking view that you certainly wont want to miss.
